Mental health built for athletes. From someone who gets it.

Athletes operate in a world that demands constant performance, resilience, and mental toughness. But what happens when the pressure becomes too much? When the identity you built around your sport starts to feel like a cage? When injury, transition, or burnout forces you to confront the person underneath the athlete?

Jhanelle Peters Psychotherapy was founded by a Registered Psychotherapist who served as the former Mental Health Clinician for the Toronto Raptors and the Sports Psychology Coordinator at Pepperdine University. This is not a therapist who read about athletic performance in a textbook. This is someone who has sat with elite athletes through their hardest moments.

Whether you are professional, collegiate, or recreational, we understand the unique mental health challenges you face, and we know how to help.

01

Who this is for.

  • Professional, collegiate, or competitive athletes experiencing mental health challenges alongside their sport.
  • Athletes dealing with performance anxiety, competition stress, or fear of failure.
  • Athletes navigating injury recovery, rehabilitation, or the mental toll of being sidelined.
  • Retired or transitioning athletes struggling with identity, purpose, and life after sport.
  • Athletes experiencing burnout, loss of motivation, or decreased enjoyment of their sport.
  • Coaches, trainers, or sports professionals seeking their own mental health support.
02

Our approach.

Our approach integrates clinical psychotherapy with a deep understanding of sport culture and the unique pressures athletes face. We do not treat athletes as a special category of human being. We treat them as whole people who happen to operate in high-pressure performance environments.

Treatment may include performance psychology techniques for managing competition anxiety, identity work for athletes whose sense of self is deeply tied to sport, transition support for career changes including retirement, injury-related mental health support, burnout prevention, and processing of experiences such as abusive coaching environments or sport-related trauma.

We speak the language of sport. You will not have to explain what it feels like to lose your starting position, to come back from an ACL tear, or to retire from the only thing you have ever known. We already understand.

There are two ways to work with us. You can work directly with Jhanelle Peters, whose former roles included Mental Health Clinician for the Toronto Raptors and Sports Psychology Coordinator at Pepperdine University Athletics, at the senior fee. Another option is Rammy Dhatt, Associate Therapist who was supervised by Jhanelle, so the framework you receive is the same. We will help you choose the right path during your 30-minute consultation.

03

What to expect in session.

Your first session will explore your relationship with your sport, your current challenges, and what you want from therapy. We will also discuss confidentiality, a critical concern for athletes who may worry about coaching staff, media, or team dynamics.

Sessions are tailored to the rhythms of your athletic life. We understand your schedule fluctuates with training, competition, and travel. Virtual therapy means you can maintain consistent support regardless of where you are.

For current athletes, we work around competitive schedules. For transitioning athletes, we provide structured support through one of the most challenging identity shifts a person can face.
