The story behind the practice.
I started Jhanelle Peters Psychotherapy because quality mental health care should be accessible, culturally sensitive, and deeply human. Too often, therapy feels clinical, distant, or formulaic. I wanted to create something different.
Why I do this work.
My path to psychotherapy was shaped by being around people and learning that we all navigate life differently. Add to that working in high-performance environments, and I knew I had to create a space that touched on both of these things.
As the former Mental Health Clinician for the Toronto Raptors, I saw firsthand what happens when talented, driven people carry the weight of their world without the right support. As the former Sports Psychology Coordinator at Pepperdine University, I learned that performance and mental health are not separate conversations. They are the same conversation.
These experiences taught me that the people who appear to have it all together are often the ones who struggle the most to ask for help. That insight became the foundation of this practice.

Beyond the credentials.
The letters after my name matter, but they are not what makes therapy work. What makes therapy work is the relationship between therapist and client. The trust. The safety. The feeling that someone actually sees you and is not judging you.
Outside the therapy room, I am a speaker, an advocate, and a community builder. I support grass-root community organisations as a mental health professional, and I speak at corporations and conferences about workplace wellness, burnout prevention, and building sustainable high performance.
I built this team around a simple principle: everyone deserves a therapist who reflects and respects their experience. That is why our team is diverse, multilingual, and deeply committed to culturally responsive care.
The practice today.
What started as a solo practice has grown into a collective of Registered Psychotherapists serving clients across nine Canadian provinces. We offer virtual therapy for individuals and couples, clinical supervision for therapists, speaking engagements, and corporate consulting.
Every therapist on our team was carefully selected for their clinical skill, warmth, and commitment to creating an actually safe space. We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Your experience here will be shaped around your needs, your story, and your goals.
A team that gets it.
