Individual therapy that meets you where you are.

Anxiety can show up in a hundred different ways. Racing thoughts, tightness in the chest, the constant feeling that something is about to go wrong. Depression can settle like a fog that dims everything that used to bring colour. Life transitions can leave you not recognizing yourself anymore. You may also be navigating relationship challenges, self-esteem concerns, identity exploration, neurodivergence, or simply looking for healthier ways to cope and grow.

Individual therapy at Jhanelle Peters Psychotherapy meets you in the middle of all of it. Our therapists help you understand what is actually happening, develop practical tools, and build the kind of resilience that lets you show up fully in your life.

01

  • Physical symptoms like tension, headaches, sleep issues, or fatigue accompany what you are feeling.
  • You have lost interest in activities that used to bring you joy.
  • You are functioning at work or in life, but it takes everything you have, and you are exhausted.
  • You are navigating a major life transition, whether a new role, relocation, parenthood, loss, or identity shift.
  • You want a space that is just for you, where you can slow down, process, and be heard.
  • You are looking to strengthen self-awareness, build resilience, and continue growing.
02

Our approach.

We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Your therapist will work with you to understand the root causes of what you are bringing in and build a treatment plan around your goals.

Modalities may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and somatic awareness. The frame is collaborative, not prescriptive. You are the expert on your own experience.

03

What to expect in session.

Your first session focuses on getting to know you, your history, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. There is no pressure to share more than you are comfortable with.

In subsequent sessions, your therapist will help you identify patterns, develop coping strategies, and gradually address what maintains the difficulty. The pace is determined by you; some clients notice shifts within a number of sessions while others work on a longer arc.

All sessions are 50 minutes, conducted via secure, PHIPA-compliant video. You can attend from anywhere in Canada.

Frequently asked

The duration varies depending on the severity, your goals, and how you respond to treatment. Many clients experience noticeable improvement within 8-12 sessions. Some clients continue therapy for ongoing support, while others feel ready to move forward after a shorter course.
CBT has the strongest evidence base for treating both anxiety and depression. We also integrate other modalities depending on your needs, including mindfulness-based approaches, ACT, solution-focused therapy. Your therapist will recommend what is most likely to be effective for you.
Yes. Multiple research studies confirm that virtual CBT is as effective as in-person CBT for anxiety, depression, and most common concerns. Many clients find virtual therapy reduces a significant source of anxiety in itself. No travel, no waiting room, no risk of being seen entering a therapy office.
That is one of the most common things people say in their first session. You do not need to have a diagnosis or a name for what you are experiencing. Therapy is designed to help you understand what is happening, and you do not need to understand it before you arrive.
